HB1191 - A Bill for Broadband Grant Program for Underserved Areas - SUPPORT
Here's SAMPLE TESTIMONY:
Aloha Chair Quinlan and Members of the Committee on Economic Development,
I SUPPORT this bill BECAUSE IT EXCLUDES WIRELESS. We want safer, faster, more secure fiber optics everywhere in Hawaii. We do not want more toxic wireless towers and antennas. Thank you for protecting our health and welfare by excluding wireless in this bill!
__________________________________________
BACKGROUND: This bill establishes a grant program to support broadband in underserved areas and, even though broadband has been redefined to include wireless - and 5G - this bill specifically says that it does NOT include wireless! We love that!
We want safer, faster, more secure fiber optics everywhere in Hawaii, especially in rural and underserved areas. Fiber optics is a superior way to connect online, far superior to wireless.
IMPORTANT: We must track this bill! In the legislative process it's possible the wireless exclusion will be removed! Big telecom is likely pressuring committee members right now to remove that provision. Please specify in testimony that you are supporting this bill BECAUSE it EXCLUDES wireless. Consider joining the zoom meeting on Wednesday morning to voice your support - and say why!
