At first we were skeptical of the opt-out, but now with new info and conditions of approval we can say YES.
I
n their Approval Order for the Opt-Out the PUC responded to concerns about the mystery fees by saying the Commission is reassured that deployment costs will not increase with the opt-out approach, and that any future opt-out fees will
not happen without PUC approval.
The order also clarifies customer concerns about bait and switch - opting-out yet getting a smart meter slapped on your house anyway. Can you tell that customers don't trust Hawaiian Electric (HEI)?
We know of many customers who asked to opt-out yet received smart meters, but the approval order states that: "the companies want to be absolutely clear on this point: A customer who opts-out will not receive an Advanced Meter" (aka smart meter). Now that they've been called out by the PUC, let's hope that promise is kept.
The sad part is that the PUC responded to concerns about health effects of wireless radiation by asking Hawaiian Electric to communicate to customers the safety of smart meters.
Safety of smart meters is an oxymoron. This reflects badly on the PUC and shows they are turning a blind eye to the well documented health harms of wireless radiation.
FCC LAWSUIT VICTORY!
In the historic win the Court called out the FCC for having NEVER done an assessment of the biological science showing great harm from wireless radiation. Their radiation limits are thus baseless and meaningless, so the PUC and Hawaiian Electric should stop deferring to the FCC and industry for safety
assurances.
