A momentary victory! Pulama Lanai withdrew their request for approval of their Final Environmental Assessment. They notified the state Land Use Commission 15 minutes before today's meeting started, likely making this the shortest LUC meeting on
record!
It is not clear at this point what their strategy is. It's possible they anticipated the Land Use Commission (LUC) would require a full Environmental Impact Statement, as we requested in our written testimony, so they may have withdrawn in order to make further modifications to the Final Environmental Assessment (FEA) in hopes of securing findings of no significant
impact at a later date.
It's not over! Celebrate today's victory and please stay tuned!!!
Here's the backstory:
Pulama Lanai wants to convert 200 acres of agricultural land into an industrial park.
The proposal does not include the drone area; however, because the drone project is alive and well according to project officials, and because the proposed industrial park is adjacent to the drone area, and because the drone area was created
without proper permitting, we have every reason to believe the giant drone project would make use of the adjacent industrial areas and that would involve significant environmental impacts that are not addressed in the current environmental assessment.
We had asked the LUC to deny the FEA and require a full blown Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
