Submit testimony now! Deadline is upon us (12 noon Monday!)
Sample Testimony:
Subject line: No WiFi needed, Stop Res. 425
Honorable Council Members:
Please stop the proliferation of WiFi until it can be proven safe. I do not consent to our public places being used as areas of wireless radiation, which harms myself and family during our time outdoors. Please follow the Precautionary Principle, like so many other municipalities, and which is part of our Hawaii Constitution.
WiFi will is not necessary to make a phone call. WiFi is for internet data. We do not need to surf the web, at the expense of our health and wellbeing, while in our public parks.
There are now hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific studies showing that wireless radiation is harmful. The government’s exposure guidelines were set in the 1990s and based on science from the 1980s. Did anyone even own a cellphone in the ’80s? The guidelines only consider heating effects, as if we were a roast cooking in a microwave oven! Despite a huge body of scientific evidence, the FCC refuses to update these guidelines, which are among the least protective
in the world.
This is extremely concerning when it comes to our children, whose small, developing bodies make them more vulnerable to the effects of wireless radiation. Children also have a longer life in front of them to experience the kind of damage researchers have documented: various cancers, reproductive problems, DNA damage, etc.
To view some of this evidence:
No "free" WiFi in our public parks, please.
Sincerely,
(Your Name)

Background Info:
Apparently Sen. Brian Schatz thinks so! And also Hamakua Councilwoman Valerie Poindexter who has been lobbying in Washington, D.C., for more Wi-Fi, especially in under-served areas. She credited the office of Sen. Schatz for advocating the Wi-Fi hot spots.
The Hawaii County Council Parks and Recreation Committee is scheduled to consider a license and permission for Spectrum to “attach, install, maintain, operate, upgrade and remove equipment, cables and devices,” as part of Resolution 425, sponsored by Poindexter.
The meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the council chambers in Hilo, with video call-in available at the West Hawaii Civic Center, the Waimea and Pahoa council offices, the old Kohala courthouse and the Naalehu state office building.
Please submit testimony now and/or appear in person to speak out against this unnecessary contamination of our public spaces.
